Microsoft delays Windows 98 SP1

Whether it was all the complaints last week about PC Card upgrade problems or not, Microsoft Corporation had a change of heart about Windows 98 SP1 and is now delaying its release. The focus of the service pack has also changed: Originally billed as a "multimedia enhancement" pack with a new DirectX 6.0, multimedia player, and other related features, SP1 will now feature bug fixes only. The multimedia upgrades will ship as separate releases over the summer. Given the change, and an apparent need to fix any problems with upgrades, Microsoft has delayed the release of SP1 from late Summer to mid-Fall. It is scheduled for beta in August
