Microsoft announces more Outlook add-ins

Hoping to counter the Lotusphere mindshare this week, Microsoft has announced fourteen (14) more add-ins for Outlook, the company's new messaging and PIM client. The add-ins are groupware applications, including: • Classified advertisements • Corporate calendar • Employee handbook • Expense report • Help desk • Job postings • Training management • Sales tracking • Vacation requests Each of these add-ins represents commonly requested business processes that corporate customers can use without needing to develop them on their own. Supposedly, Microsoft left these applications out of Outlook on purpose so that users would get used to connecting to the Microsoft Web site for updates. The company is expecting to release more add-ins on a monthly basis. These fourteen add-ins, and the Rules Wizard mentioned yesterday, are now available from the Outlook home page.
