Longhorn Has a Name . . .

. . . and it's Windows Vista. Today Microsoft announced that it's renamed its next-generation OS--formerly code-named Longhorn--to Windows Vista. "Windows Vista will bring clarity to your world by letting you focus on what matters most to you," says Greg Sullivan, Windows Product Manager. (And we thought "vista" meant "a distant view.")

Microsoft also said that it will release Windows Vista Beta 1, which is targeted at developers and IT professionals, by August 3. The final version of the product is scheduled to be released in 2006. (And no, we're not changing the name Windows IT Pro  to Windows Vista.)
