Intel settles with FTC

Well so much for that. Perhaps taking a cue from Microsoft's abysmal showing in its own antitrust trial, Intel Corporation reached a tentative settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Monday. The settlement, if approved by the FTC, would prevent the need for a trial; the FTC had brought Intel up on charges of anticompetitive behavior.

"We view this compromise agreement as a win-win for both parties and we are satisfied that the agreement gives us value for our intellectual property rights," said Craig Barrett, president and CEO of Intel. "This is acceptable to both parties and was the result of constructive dialog between Intel and the FTC."

Details of the settlement haven't been released yet
