Exchange Server 5.0, with improved Internet connection support, headed to final beta release this week. This new mail server, part of the BackOffice suite of server applications, now features POP3, NNTP, and HTTP support as well as the new Outlook mail client, which is positioned as the ultimate Windows mail program. Also featured is Web browser access to Exchange Server, which allows users to easily log into an Exchange account over the Web, log-in securely, check mail, and respond and send new mail. Other groupware products offered this service last year. Currently, the big competition is Netscape Communicator, also in beta. Microsoft Exchange Server is due this quarter
