Ellison drops bid to seize control of Apple

One of the strangest chapters in recent personal computer history has come to a close...for now. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison today announced that he has dropped his bid to buy Apple Computer. In a statement released to the press, Ellison said he was not engaged in discussions with Apple Computer or any of its shareholders concerning a possible acquisition of the company.

Ellison did, however, mention that he is "interested in developments at Apple" and "may well purchase stock for investment purposes or otherwise, or revisit in the future his decision regarding an acquisition or control of that firm.
