Diskeeper 2009 to Offer Defrag Improvements

Diskeeper Corporation has sent word that Diskeeper 2009 will be released in mid-December, and will boast a number of new program features and improvements, including improved disk defragmentation operations, integration with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) and Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM), and improved I-FAAST technology.

Citing the explosion in fixed disk size, Diskeeper has added their Terabyte Volume Engine technology to Diskeeper Pro Premier workstation. The Enterprise Server edition of the product has added Diskeeper's Titan Defrag Engine technology, which Diskeeper claims has been "built to defragment multi-terabyte volumes even faster and more thoroughly than ever before" and that it is the "only defrag solution powerful enough to handle volumes at 10–20 plus terabytes." We'll test those claims in an upcoming review of Diskeeper 2009.

A host of other tweaks and improvements are listed for Diskeeper 2009, including a revamped version of Diskeeper's I-FAAST (Intelligent File Access Acceleration Sequencing Technology) that should boost performance for commonly accessed files. A feature called Frag Shield helps prevent fragmentation of key system files, while tweaks to free space defrag operations should bring performance gains and improved operation in low free space (less than 1% free disk space) environments. Improved support for SSD drives will also be added.

Diskeeper 2009 Pro ($59.95) and Diskeeper 2009 Pro Premier ($99.95) will be available in early December, with network server editions to follow soon thereafter. Visit diskeeper.com for more information, and look for a full review in a future issue of Windows IT Pro.
