Disable Group Policy Caching in Windows 8.1

Q: How do I disable Group Policy caching in Windows 8.1?

A: To disable Group Policy caching in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, perform the following:

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC).
  2. Create or edit a Group Policy Object (GPO) linked to the desired domain/organizational unit (OU).
  3. Navigate to \Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy.
  4. Double-click Configure Group Policy Caching.
  5. Select the Disabled setting, and click OK.
  6. Close the Group Policy Editor.

After Group Policy refreshes on your clients, caching will no longer be used.
