DevDays 99 to focus on Windows 2000

Microsoft's annual DevDays event, held simultaneously in over thirty cities in the US and Canada, will focus largely on Windows 2000 this year, the company says. Sold out in more than half of the participating cities, DevDays 99 will prepare developers for Windows 2000-based Web and software development by providing overviews of the new developer features in the upcoming OS. Attendees will also be given the latest beta version of Windows 2000, expected to be the delayed Release Candidate 2 (RC2), the Windows 2000 Readiness Kit, a COM+ deployment tool and other COM+ resources, a new Visual Studio installer for Windows 2000, and a DevDays 99 Conference CD.

Tracks at this one-day conference include "Design your application for scalability and robustness with new COM+ services," "Develop distributed, Web-based apps that don't require you to build any 'security plumbing'," "Avoid DLL conflicts and simplify version checking," and "Migrate your existing apps quickly and simply to Windows 2000, avoiding common mistakes." Heady stuff, indeed.

Some cities do allow walk-in registration the day of the event, but check the DevDays 99 Web site for details as many cities are already sold out
