Q: Can I create a cluster with a mix of Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 hosts?
A: No. You can't mix OS versions in a cluster. It will fail validation and also will fail to create the cluster. All OSs in a cluster must be the same version.
This is why a rolling upgrade of a cluster isn't possible.
