Bill Gates: Windows NT will dominate over UNIX

At his Windows Solution keynote address in Tokyo yesterday, Bill Gates predicted that Windows NT would achieve complete dominance over UNIX. "PCs are now invading the Unix \[workstation\] space," he said. "Up on the server level, the same thing will be taking place over the next several years." The only problem facing NT, according to Gates, is it's scalability, or ability to run on a variety of (multi-processor) systems. Gates claims that "Wolfpack", a clustering technology that is now testing, will finally allow NT to achieve UNIX-level scalability. "We're going to show that with off-the-shelf PC server technology \[and\] with Windows NT, managing many, many terabytes of data is not only inexpensive, but easy to set up," Gates said
