You cannot connect to a shared printer by using Internet Explorer 7?
This behavior occurs because Protected Mode is enabled by default, restricting modifications to system files and settings.
To workaround this behavior, disable Protected Mode or use the Add Printer Wizard.
To disable Protected Mode in Windows Vista:
01. Close all instances of Internet Explorer 7.02. Start / Run / gpedit.msc / OK.
03. Expand Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer.
04. Double-click Turn off the Security Settings Check feature.
05. Select Enable.
06. Press Apply and OK.
07. Close the Group Policy Editor.
08. Open Internet Explorer from the Start menu.
09. Press Alt and select Tools / Internet Options.
10. Select the Security tab.
11. Uncheck Enable Protected Mode.
12. Press Apply and OK.
13. Close Internet Explorer.
14. When you start Internet Explorer, the status bar should display Protected Mode: Off.
