Microsoft Word Vulnerable to Remote Code Execution

A newly reported vulnerability in Microsoft Word could allow an intruder to launch remote code on an affected system. An exploit for the vulnerability is currently circulating on the Internet. Microsoft is aware of the problem and issued an advisory about the matter. According to the advisory, the problem affects Microsoft Word 2000/2002/2003, Word Viewer 2003, Word 2004 for Mac, Word 2004 v. X for Mac, and Microsoft Works 2004/2005/2006.

No patch is available, and the company recommends that people not open Word files that come from untrusted sources.
