JSI Tip 8839. Windows XP enumerates unusual display resolutions for your NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go video adapter?

If you select one these unusual display resolutions, like 969 x 768 or 1372 x 1050, your display may show a black stripe, or may only be partially used.

This behavior will occur if you install the Microsoft driver for the NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go video adapter, or installing SP2 (Service Pack 2) may cause the Microsoft driver to be installed if you subsequently use the Update Driver option to specifically update the driver for this device AND the Microsoft driver is newer than the OEM driver.

NOTE: See IHV drivers or OEM drivers are replaced with Microsoft drivers when you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 by using the /n switch.

To resolve this issue, either download and install the latest GeForce driver, or use the Roll Back feature:

1. Start / Run / devmgmt.msc / OK.

2. Expand Display adapters.

3. Right-click the NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go entry and press Properties.

4. Select the Driver tab.

5. Press the Roll Back Driver button.
