JSI Tip 8662. Terminal Services users must press the SHIFT key twice to turn of CAPS LOCK?

The subject behavior will occur if both the server and the client have the To turn off Caps Lock option set to Press the SHIFT key.

To resolve this problem:

Windows Server 2003

01. Open a CMD.EXE window.

02. Type REG QUERY "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout" /V Attribute and press Enter.

03. If you receive Error: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value, or the Attribute data value is NOT 0x00010000, exit this procedure as you do NOT have the To turn off Caps Lock option set to Press the SHIFT key.

04. Open the Regional and Language Options applet in Control Panel.

05. Select the Languages tab.

06. Press Details.

07. Select the Settings tab.

08. Press Key Settings.

09. In the To turn off Caps Lock section, select Press the CAPS LOCK key.

10. Press OK.

11. Press OK and OK.

Windows 2000 Server

01. Open a CMD.EXE window.

02. Type REG QUERY "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout" /V Attribute and press Enter.

03. If you receive Error: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value, or the Attribute data value is NOT 0x00010000, exit this procedure as you do NOT have the To turn off Caps Lock option set to Press the SHIFT key.

04. Open the Keyboard applet in Control Panel.

05. Select the Input Locales tab.

06. In the To turn off Caps Lock section, select Press the CAPS LOCK key.

07. Press OK.

08. Close Control Panel.
