JSI Tip 8584. FRS does NOT replicate a file in a DFS topology if you move the file between folders?

When you use the File Replication Service to replicate information in a Distributed File System topology, a file that is moved from one DFS link to another replicated DFS link is NOT replicated, IF both DFS links are on the same server.

NOTE: If the DFS link folders reside on the same volume, FRS does not recognize an update sequence number (USN) change, because FRS requires an NTFS provided USN entry to stage a file for replication, and there is only one USN change journal for each volume on a computer.

To workaround this behavior, configure the DFS link folders to be on different volumes.

NOTE: See Configuration and operational recommendations for the File Replication service in Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server.

NOTE: See FRS Technical Reference.
