JSI Tip 8444. Windows Explorer may not start after removing Service Pack 2 from Windows XP?

If you used the Recovery Console to begin the removal of SP2, Explorer.exe may not start.

To workaround this problem:

01. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

02. Start Task Manager.

03. Select the Applications tab.

04. Press New Task.

05. Type regedit.exe into the Open box.

06. Press OK.

07. Use the Registry Editor to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs.

08. Right-click the ObjectName Value Name and press Modify.

09. Type LocalSystem into the Value String box.

10. Press OK.

11. Resume removing SP2 with step 08 of tip 8339.
