JSI Tip 8326. The USB 2.0 drivers DO NOT appear to update when you install Windows XP SP2?

After you install SP2 (Service Pack 2) for Windows XP, you can see that the USB 2.0 driver files have been updated, but they display earlier version numbers.

The easiest way to resolve this issue, is to disconnect and reconnect the USB devices, so that Plug and Play can update the version numbers.

If you prefer to cause Device Manager to update the drivers:

1. Start / Run / devmgmt.msc / OK.

2. Double-click the device type that you want to update.

3. Double-click the device that you want to update.

4. Select the Driver tab.

5. Press Update Driver.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

NOTE: Repeat the above for each USB device.

NOTE: See How to manage devices in Windows XP.
