JSI Tip 7912. When you create a RIPREP image of Windows XP Professional SP1 on a Windows 2000 server, you receive 'Failed to stop service'?

When you use RIS on a Windows 2000 server to create a RIPREP image of Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1, you receive:

Failed to stop service
Remote Installation Preparation Wizard failed to stop one or more services. See RIPrep.log for details.

NOTE: The RIPrep.log is located at \\<ServerName>\reminst\setup\<Language>\Images\<Image_Name>\i386.

To fix this bug, replace the RIPREP files with copies from the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM:

1. Rename RIPrep.exe, RIPrep.inf, and Setupcl.exe on your server at <Drive_letter>\Remoteinstall\admin\i386.

2. Restart your Windows 2000 server.

3. Open a CMD.EXE windows.

4. Insert the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CD.

5. Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each one:

     Expand <CD-ROM-Drive>\i386\riprep.ex_ <Drive_letter>\Remoteinstall\admin\i386\reprep.exe
     Expand <CD-ROM-Drive>\i386\riprep.in_ <Drive_letter>\Remoteinstall\admin\i386\reprep.inf
     Expand <CD-ROM-Drive>\i386\setupcl.ex_ <Drive_letter>\Remoteinstall\admin\i386\setupcl.exe
     Exit

6. Remove the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CD from the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.
