JSI Tip 6254. Windows XP DHCP client uses IP address 0.0.0.0?

When you start Windows XP, you are unable to connect to the Internet because the IP address is 0.0.0.0?

Your System Event log may contain Error 7003 - DHCP service failed to start because dependency service SYMTDI will not start.

This error will occur if you have partially uninstalled Norton Antivirus software.

To resolve this problem:

1. Use the Registry Editor to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP.

2. Double-click the DependOnService Value Name, a REG_MULTI_SZ data type.

3. Click in the Value data window to de-select the items.

4. Remove SYMTDI from the Multi-String list.

5. Press OK.

6. Exist the Registry Editor.
