JSI Tip 6228. Windows XP Setup returns to the Welcome screen when upgrading from Windows 98, or Windows ME, and you start entering the Product Key?

If you experience the subject problem, try the following:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM.

2. Open a command prompt.

3. Type xcopy <CD-ROM:>\I386\*.* c:\i386\*.* /s /e and press Enter, where <CD-ROM:> is the drive letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

4. Close all windows.

5. Start / Run / C:\i386\winnt32.exe / OK.

NOTE: If this procedure does not fix the problem, you need a replacement Windows XP CD-ROM:
