JSI Tip 5969. How do I configure DNS to use WINS to resolve a hostname not found in the DNS database?

To configure DNS to use WINS to resolve a hostname not found in it's database:

1. Open DNS Manager for the Administrative Tools folder.

2. Expand the Forward Lookup Zones.

3. Right click the zone you wish to configure and press Properties.

4. Select the WINS tab.

5. Check the Use WINS .... box.

6. Type the IP address and press ADD (There are some differences based upon the O/S).

7. Press Apply and OK.
