JSI Tip 5742. When updating to Windows XP SP1, you receive 'This application has failed to start because netdtect.dll was not found'?

When you install the Windows XP SP1 update, during the Inspecting your current configuration phase you receive:

Update.exe - Unable to Locate Component This application has failed to start because netdtect.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

You have a 3rd party driver trying to link to the old Netdtect.dll library, which is no longer provided with Windows.

NOTE: The CNet Pro200WL Fast Ethernet  adapter is a likely culprit.

When you get this error, you can safely ignore it. There is nothing to reinstall.

To continue the installation:

1. Press OK.

2. Go get a cup of coffee, as Windows may hang for up to 15 minutes.

3. The installation will continue as expected.
