JSI Tip 5515. You are unable to print after upgrading to Windows XP?

After you upgrade to Windows XP, when you try to print a document you receive:

Document failed to print

You may be unable to install a new printer.

Check your computer's BIOS. If the parallel ports are set to OS controlled or Auto, set them to Enabled. Then:

1. Use Control Panel / System to select the Hardware tab.

2. Open Device Manager.

3. Double-click Ports.

4. If only LPT3 is listed, make sure that your printers use LPT3.

5. Close Device Manager and close System Properties.

To set the port for your printer:

1. Use Control Panel / Printers and Faxes to right-click your printer and press Properties.

2. Select the Ports tab.

3. Clear the LPT1: box and check the LPT3: box.

4. Press OK.
