JSI Tip 5344. How do I configure the Windows XP Search to use the Windows 2000 Search behavior?

In tip 4348, I described how to "alter the look and functionality of the Windows XP search companion".

If you prefer Start / Search to function like Windows 2000:

1. Copy / Paste the following in to a NoSC.bat file:

@echo off
@echo REGEDIT4>"%temp%\NoSC.reg"
@echo \[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CabinetState\]>>"%temp%\NoSC.reg"
@echo "Use Search Asst"="no">>"%temp%\NoSC.reg"
regedit /s "%temp%\NoSC.reg"

2. Double-click or run the NoSC.bat file.

NOTE: You can reverse the process by setting Use Search Asst to yes.
