When you install Windows XP, the new Start menu is enabled by default and the My Computer, My Documents, and My Network Places icons have been removed from the desktop.
To restore some/all of these icons:
1. Right-click an empty area of your desktop and press Properties.
2. Select the Desktop tab.
3. Press the Customize Desktop button.
4. Select the General tab.
5. Check the boxes for the icons you wish on your desktop.
6. Press OK, Apply, and OK.
