JSI Tip 4773. STOP 0x0000008E during Windows XP Setup?

When performing a Windows XP install, you receive a STOP error, with parameters similar to:

STOP 0x0000008e (0xc00000005, 0x80844310, 0xf89d52c, 0x00000000)

If you remove all unnecessary hardware, you may receive:

Setup cannot copy the file Setupdd.sys.

This is likely to be a faulty or incompatible RAM issue.

The minimum memory required is 64MB, but even Microsoft recommends a 128MB minimum. I recommend a 256MB minimum. The maximum you can have is 4 Gig.

To determine the problem (Don't violate the 64MB minimum rule):

1. Remove a memory module and retry. If you can install, you have a faulty module.

2. If it still fails, remove a different module and retry. Repeat this step until you are successful.

NOTE: Replace any modules found to be faulty.

NOTE: Make sure your BIOS is flashed current.
