JSI Tip 4759. Some frequently used programs are NOT added to your Windows XP Start menu?

When you constantly use shortcuts to .exe files, Windows XP adds these shortcuts to the Start menu.

If the shortcut contains the following strings in the shortcut name, they are NOT added to the Start menu:

Documentation
Help
Install
More Info
Readme
Read me
Read First
Setup
Support
What's New
You can alter this behavior my modifying the AddRemoveNames Value Name string at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileAssociation.

The following programs are specifically excluded from being added to the Start menu:

Setup.exe
Install.exe
Isuninst.exe
Unwise.exe
Unwise32.exe
St5unst.exe
Rundll32.exe
This list is located in the AddRemoveApps Value Name string at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileAssociation.

You can exclude programs by adding a NoStartPage Value Name as an empty string at:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\<Application Name.exe>.

The following programs have this entry by default:

Explorer.exe
Icwconn1.exe
Inoculan.exe
Mobsync.exe
Navwnt.exe
Realmon.exe
Sndvol32.exe
