JSI Tip 4058. Windows XP Setup leaves approximately 8 megabytes (MB) of unpartitioned space?

When you use Windows XP Setup to create a new drive and you choose to use all the available space, Setup leaves approximately 8 megabytes (MB) of unpartitioned space?

Setup leaves approximately 8 megabytes (MB) of unpartitioned space so you can convert the drives to a dynamic volume.

If you partitioned the drive before running setup, using any of the following operating systems, the 8 MB unpartitioned space is hidden:

MS-DOS
Microsoft Windows 95
Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
Microsoft Windows 2000
NOTE: See Dynamic vs. Basic Storage in Windows 2000.
