JSI Tip 2105. RAS assigns the wrong DNS server to your W95 client?

When your W95 client connects to a Windows NT 4.0 RAS server, and is configured for Server-assigned IP address, they receive a DNS address which is the IP address that the RAS server uses, not the one that DHCP assigns.

You are not able to change this address.

This is by design. Windows NT 4.0 returns the the first DNS server IP address from the RAS server's DNS addresses. To alter this behavior, use Regedit on the W95 client to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\DHCPInfo00\OptionInfo

Change the data value of OptionInfo to 00 and restart the computer.

NOTE: OptionInfo actually contains the IP address of the DNS server, in hexadecimal.
