JSI Tip 0956. Can't establish a trust due to: "Could not find domain controller for this domain"?

You can set up a LMHOSTS file on each PDC that contains:

IP_ADDRESS_OF_PDC PDCname #PRE #DOM:DomainName
IP_ADDRESS_OF_PDC "DOMAINNAME \0x1b" #PRE

The spacing of the last entry is very critical. The "DOMAINNAME \0x1b" entry must be exactly 20 characters bwetween the quotation marks.

You must also enable LMHOSTS functionality in Control Panel / Network / Protocols / TCP/IP / Properties / WINS Address or by using the registry hack from tip 463.

Once the LMHOSTS entries have been established, issue a NBTSTAT -R.
