How do I configure an Internet browser to use the Web proxy service?

A. This procedure is basically the same for all browsers. For the following browsers, complete the steps listed below:

Internet Explorer 4.0

1. From the View menu, select Internet Options.
2. Click the Connection tab.
3. Check the Access the Internet using a proxy server box.
4. Click the Advanced button, and enter the proxy server’s address in the HTTP address box. Enter the port (typically 80). If all protocols use the same proxy server, select the Use the same proxy server for all protocols. Click OK.
5. Check Bypass proxy server for local (Intranet) addresses so that the browser doesn’t use the proxy service for sites on the local intranet.
6. Click Apply, then click OK.

Netscape Navigator 4.0

1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
2. Expand the Advanced category, and select Proxies.
3. Check Manual proxy configuration, and click View.
4. Enter the name of the proxy server and its port for all protocols you wish to use a proxy server for. Click OK.
5. Click OK to complete the configuration.

Mosaic 3.0

1. From the View menu, select Options, then Preferences.
2. Click the Proxy tab.
3. Enter the proxy server in the format http://: (e.g., http://proxy:80).
4. Click Apply, then click OK.

You need to make sure that all clients have permission to use the proxy server. To do so, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Internet Service Manager (ISM).
2. Double-click the proxy server computer name that is next to the Web proxy service.
3. Select the Permissions tab.
4. Select WWW from the Protocols list.
5. Click Edit, and add all users and groups who have permission to access the proxy server and thus the rest of the Internet. Click OK.
6. Click Apply, then click OK.
