Tired of DVDs rendered useless by scratches? Researchers at TDK have the answer with a new protective coating for DVDs that should help eliminate the problem. The company began selling blank recordable DVDs treated with the patent-pending polymer coating earlier this year and expects wider adoption in the future. The coating is expected to play a large role in next-generation DVD formats, such as Blu-ray, in which scratches to the high-capacity discs become a much bigger risk. The Blu-ray Disc Association recently endorsed the new coating. Nice
