Apple Announces iPhone 3G S

Apple announced the iPhone 3G S at their Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC09) on Monday. According to Apple, this updated version of the ubiquitous iPhone will be available on June 16th starting at $199, and offers improved battery life, enhanced OS performance, a built-in digital compass, a new video capture feature, new voice control options, and an upgraded 3 megapixel camera with autofocus capability.

Two models of the iPhone 3G S will be offered: a $299 32GB model, and a $199 16GB model. Apple also announced that the 8GB iPhone 3G is now available for $99.

In a statement announcing the new iPhone 3G S, Apple Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing Philip Schiller touted the new sub-$100 pricepoint for the iPhone 3G. "\[The\] iPhone 3G S is the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet and we think people will love the incredible new features including autofocus camera, video recording and the freedom of voice control," said Schiller. "And with a breakthrough price of $99, we are thrilled to get iPhone 3G into the hands of even more users who want them."

  • Cut, copy and paste between iPhone applications
  • MMS support
  • Spotlight Search across iPhone, Mail, Contacts, Calendar and iPod
  • Landscape keyboard for Mail, Messages, Notes and Safari
  • Find My iPhone feature
  • Remote wipe feature
