Remove Candy Crush and Twitter from Windows 10

Q. Why did Candy Crush and Twitter automatically install on my Windows 10 machine with build 1511?

A. Windows 10 1511 introduced a new feature, Consumer Experiences, which automatically installs certain consumer applications, even on the Enterprise edition. The challenge is these applications such as Candy Crush and Twitter actually break the ability to Sysprep the machine. While the applications can be uninstalled the best option is to stop them being installed in the first place which can be done through a policy.

  1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Cloud Content
  3. Double click Turn off Microsoft consumer experiences and set to Enabled
  4. Click OK

This should be done before connecting the machine to the Internet to avoid the applications ever being installed.
