A. When you configure a cluster for use by Hyper-V, there are several networking considerations. If you intend to use Live Migration, you need at least four NICS in each node:
- Management NIC—Used to manage the node
- Virtual network NIC—Used by an external virtual network to enable virtual machine network connectivity
- Cluster NIC—Used for cluster communication and Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) traffic
- Live Migration NIC—Used for memory and state transfer during a Live Migration
While it's possible to use the virtual network NIC for management (by selecting the option to allow the management OS to use the NIC), it's not recommended, because a problem on the virtual switch would take away your management abilities.
Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on the cluster and Live Migration NICs (the Virtual Network NIC will be unbound from all services automatically). If you're using iSCSI (which would be a 5th NIC), disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on the iSCSI NIC as well.
Disable the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on the Live Migration NIC (and iSCSI), but don't disable on the cluster NIC. Both the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks are required for CSVs to function.
