Q: Can I add a Scale-out File Server as a System Center Virtual Machine Manager library server?
A: Currently it isn't possible to add a Scale-out File Server (SoFS) as a System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) library server. When you deploy a library server, the SCVMM agent is deployed to the host to enable management of items such as enumeration of the file system, shares, and deployment of resources. For an SoFS, there are multiple hosts in a cluster providing the shares, which makes it more complicated to deploy the agent and manage the resources. Currently, a separate library server is required.
What is possible is once you have a separate library server in the Library workspace, right-click the library server you added and select Add Library Shares. On the Add Library Shares wizard is an Add Unmanaged Share button. Click this button to enter the URL of a share that could be hosted on an SoFS. This is one way to leverage your SoFS for storage. You also need to ensure that the SCVMM server and service account have full control on NTFS and on the share you manually created on the SoFS for it to function correctly. Administrators are typically given full control so that resources can be directly added through Explorer.
