Webroot Launches New Product, Gains New CEO

Webroot Software announced that board member Peter Watkins will become the company's new CEO as of January 1, 2007. Watkins is former COO at McAfee. Current company CEO David Moll will step down but keep his seat on the board.

A spokesperson for Webroot said, "Essentially, Peter and David are swapping roles. Webroot will continue to leverage their valuable skill-sets, and gain from both their talents. This benefit was critical to the Board as it considered David Moll's initial recommendation to make this transition."

According to data provided by the company, Moll joined Webroot when it had 10 employees, helped the company grow to more than 300 employees, and leaves his post with the company in its best financial shape ever.

Last last month, Webroot added antivirus capabilities with the launch of its new Spy Sweeper with AntiVirus product for consumers. The company partnered with Sophos to deliver the antivirus technology and intends to launch an enterprise version soon.
