McAfee Will Scan your WiFi Config for Vulnerabilities

McAfee launched a new free service that uses a downloadable ActiveX control to scan your wireless networking configuration for vulnerabilities. The company's new "wifiscan" Web page says that the service can suggest security measures to correct problems that it finds in your configuration.

According to one report I read about the tool, the functionality of ActiveX control will allow it to detect nearby networks and wireless devices. It canĀ also detect vulnerabilities such as "twin" networks, which areĀ those wireless access points that are configured to appear like a legitimate access point in order to coax users into connecting for whatever nefarious purposes. The service is supposedly anonymous but transmits data back to McAfee so it can improve it's WiFi Security product.
