Letting Data Managers Create and Delete Shares

I want to give the data manager of each departmental Windows NT 4.0 file server permission to create and delete shares (but no other permission). I also want to let data managers manage shares and get a complete overview of all shares on a file server without having access to NT's Server Manager. How can I give the data managers the access they need to perform these tasks?

To give data managers permission to create and delete shares on their department's file server, change the permissions on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares registry subkey. Give your data managers Full Control permissions to the Shares subkey of their departmental file server.

To help your data managers with share administration, consider using the ShareUI tool. ShareUI is an extension of Windows Explorer that ships with the Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Resource Kit. ShareUI lets your data managers configure all directory sharing on their file servers from one window.

To install the ShareUI Windows Explorer extension, install the resource kit, locate the shareui.inf installation file in the Ntreskit directory, right-click shareui.inf, and select Install. After ShareUI is installed, you'll notice a new container called Shared Directories in the My Computer container, which Figure 1 shows. Every computer listed in Network Neighborhood will be able to see the new container.
