Microsoft released Office 2003 Service Pack 2 and junk email filter updates for Outlook 2003. Together they can help protect against phishing attacks.
Office 2003 Service Pack 2 , released September 27, contains a wide array of fixes and updates to the Office suite of products including Excel, Word, Access, FrontPage, PointPoint, Outlook, and Office itself. Interesting for security administrators is the new phishing protection for Outlook 2003, which helps defend against intruders who try to steal people's private information.
In order to use the new phishing protection people will need to also install the latest email filter updates for Outlook 2003. Microsoft updated is related article, "How to obtain the latest Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 junk e-mail filter updates," which provides links to the latest filter update. Note that after the new email filter update and Office SP2 have been installed the phishing protection will be turned on by default.
For those using Outlook Live 2003, Microsoft recommends that you install Outlook Live SP2 . You can learn about the full range of changes in the new service pack by downloading the self-installed Excel spreadsheet. If you use OneNote 2003, Project 2003 , Visio 2003 , or Office 2003 Proofing Tools then be sure to examine the individual SP2 updates for those tools too, which are each seperate downloads.
