German Government Denies Der Spiegal Report

German newspaper Der Spiegal reported yesterday that the German military would stop using Microsoft software for its sensitive operations. However, Wired News reported today that a German Defense Ministry official has flatly denied those allegations.

According to the news report, a German official stated that its Defense Ministry signed a licensing agreement with Microsoft over a year and a half ago, and that it intends to continue to use Microsoft software in its operations. The official did not, however, deny concern over security issues, but stated that the Defense Ministry feels that it is adequately protecting its sensitive information with its own encryption technologies, independent of Microsoft software.
