Check Point Software Technologies announced the release of its new appliance-based VPN-1 Edge solution. The new line of appliances provides VPN and firewall features along with centralized management. VPN-1 Edge is based on the company's VPN-1 NG software.
VPN-1 Edge is available in four models depending on the number of concurrent users that need access through the appliance. Support for 8, 16, 32, and unlimited users is available. All models provide a 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch, a 10/100 WAN port, and the three larger models also provide 10/100 DMZ port and a serial port.
To protect traffic traveling over the VPNs, the devices support the Application Environment Specification (AES), Triple Data Encryption Standard (DES), and DES encryption, as well as IP Security (IPSec) Network Address Translation (NAT) traversal. The appliances are priced between $399 and $1599.
