6 great SQL Server track sessions

Doesn’t the IT/Dev Connections conference in September seem like it’s so far away? If so, then you’re in luck! We’re happy to announce that we’re holding a two-day, online basics training event in June that gets you up-to-speed on all you need to know before the big, in-person event.

On June 18 and 19, the event spans across five content tracks, which includes SQL Server, Windows, SharePoint, Exchange, and Development content tracks. Each track boasts at least four, 60-minute sessions with a live Q&A chat following each session.

We’re particularly proud of the SQL Server track. Not only do we have wonderful speakers who will share their knowledge and expertise at this event, but you’ll also walk away with real-world solutions that you can implement immediately in your environments. Here’s a rundown of the tracks we’re offering in the SQL track:

Getting Started with Entity Framework. In this session with Dino Esposito, you’ll learn how Entity Framework can save yourself from writing tedious ADO.NET and SQL code, as well as gaining a more conceptual view of the database domain.

SQL Server 2014 New Features. SQL Server Pro technical director and contributing author, Michael Otey will get attendees up to speed on SQL Server 2014, where they will learn the different features and editions for that latest version of SQL Server, how to migrate databases to In-Memory OLTP, and how to use AlwaysOn Availibility Groups and SQL Backup with Windows Azure.

Data Warehousing and SSAS Basics. SQL Server Pro contributing author, Tyler Chessman will provide step-by-step instructions on how to design a star-scheme data warehouse, along with different types of fact and dimensional tables. You’ll also learn how a SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) cube can act as a business-friendly model on top of the data warehouse.

Backup and Restore Fundamentals. Allan Hirt explains considerations for having a top-notch backup solution in place. You’ll walk away understanding different types of backups that can be performed in SQL Server, along with what it takes to create a successful backup and restore strategy.

Exploring Big Data with Hadoop and SQL Server. Josh Fennessy will provide attendees with an introduction into Big Data architecture with Hadoop and HDInsight. If this is your first venture into Big Data, Fennessy will provide you with a concise roadmap on how to learn Hadoop coming from a SQL background.

Stored Procedures: Why They’re Still Relevant. SQL Server Pro contributing author, Michael K. Campbell, not only explains why stored procedures are still relevant, but also goes a step further about how you can use them efficiently. You’ll learn what makes stored procedures so powerful, along with tips and tricks for optimizing them for performance.
