JetBrains, a firm specializing in the development of intelligent, productivity-enhancing software, has announced availability of IntelliJ IDEA 9 Milestone 1. IntelliJ IDEA 9 Milestone 1 is a preview release of the next version of the IntelliJ IDEA Java IDE, scheduled for release in fall 2009. JetBrains is encouraging users of Milestone 1 to provide feedback that the vendor will use in finalizing the product.

Among the new features in IntelliJ IDEA 9 are:

         optimized overall performance and usability

         improved core Java development facilities

         Java EE 6 support

         Tapestry and OSGi integration

         an optimized project-indexing engine

support for Android and Google App Engine

         global projectwide code analysis

         improved Flex support

         GWT 1.6 support

"We want to demonstrate the progress we've made toward IntelliJ IDEA 9 and show developers what it has in store for them," said Max Shafirov, IntelliJ IDEA project lead. "A milestone release is also a great chance for our users to voice their opinions and provide input on areas that still need improvement. We will carefully evaluate and utilize all feedback. Developers, in turn, can already start using the latest features we've implemented."
