SharePoint New and Improved Products: Content and Project Management, PDFs, Extranets

Managing SharePoint Content

Metalogix Content Manager for SharePoint came out recently from Metalogix Software. The solution aims to make SharePoint content easier to find and organize. It uses a ribbon-based UI for administrators as well as end users. End users can add metadata, see terms from the Term Store and apply those terms, and upload, classify, and tag items. To learn more, see the Metalogix website.

Project Management with SharePoint

BrightWork's BrightWork 10 updates the project and portfolio management solution with a new Project Metrics List that can automatically capture and track project metrics. The new release also ships with preloaded sample metrics and adds three new project management templates, enhanced reporting, and improved Microsoft Project to SharePoint synchronization. To learn more, see the BrightWork website.

Using PDFs and SharePoint

Workshare PDF Professional Plus 2.0, Workshare's document collaboration software, adds new integrations for Autonomy iManage Worksite and SharePoint 2010, letting users open and combine files into a PDF portfolio and save PDF files directly in the document repository. It also adds redact capabilities, the ability to shrink files on demand, and the ability to index a PDF. To learn more, see the Workshare website.

Managing SharePoint Extranets

From SharePoint Solutions comes SharePoint Extranet Collaboration Manager 2010—an add-on solution to create, secure, manage, monitor and streamline the use of SharePoint 2010 extranets. It lets delegated users perform routine administrative tasks such as sending invitations, adding accounts, unlocking accounts, managing passwords, granting access, and removing access. Admins can define security policies to govern site access and activity–at the site collection level, at the site level, or based on email domain. A new feature is the online extranet sandbox to enable users to test drive the product before purchasing it. To learn more, see the company's website.
