Q. A network adapter that uses a virtual bus driver is not loaded when you use the -minint switch in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP?

When you use the Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) to create a custom installation of Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP, using a network adapter that installs a virtual bus driver on top of the physical bus driver, the use of the -minint switch with Factory.exe results in the network adapter not loading. You receive:

Failed to install network adapter -- check WINBOM

To workaround this behavior, use the -WinPE switch instead of the -minint switch when you start Factory.exe. The -WinPE switch enhances Plug and Play detection, allowing a wider variety of network adapters to be detected.
