AnyDesk: Provided client computers are running the remote application, this remote desktop tool works on computers running Windows, macOS, Linux and FreeBSD, as well as on mobile devices running Android and iOS. The service offers an own-network option for remote workers who can't or shouldn't access a cloud for security purposes.
BeyondTrust (formerly known as Bomgar): This service allows IT helpdesk employees to see remote employees' screens and fully interact with the remote desktop. For example, if someone needs help changing passwords or updating programs, the IT helpdesk employee can get the remote worker to download the client app, launch it and let the helpdesk tech take over from there. Features supported include remote control, screen sharing, unattended access, annotations, file sharing and remote mobile device camera sharing.
TeamViewer Tensor: Aimed at organizations that have incorporated bring-your-own-device (BYOD) or choose-your-own-device (CYOD) policies to their machine management, this cloud-based service can establish secure connections to corporate networks and accounts. Thus, it's equipped for remote mobile device control.
Windows Remote Desktop
Windows Remote Desktop: These remote access tools are built into Windows and can be configured using Group policy by administrators. Access can be accomplished via the provided software on Windows devices. There are also apps in the Windows Store — both production and beta options — as well as mobile apps on iOS and Android. If you are looking to save money related to remote services, then these have the perfect price tag: $0.
Microsoft Intune: This offers integrated endpoint management of not only Windows and macOS devices but also manages mobile devices running Android and iOS mobile operating systems. It also provides tools for keeping those devices up to date and insight for security and data protection.
ConnectWise: This software provides service automation, remote control, access and endpoint monitoring and management. It includes tools that help you automatically detect what devices are on your network so they can be centrally managed. ConnectWise also supports patching and monitoring of those endpoints and the ability to automate many repetitive tasks to reduce the overall time needed to manage your endpoints and network.
Always on Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Always on Virtual Private Network (VPN): Another option to consider for remote offices and systems is deploying a VPN. This system not only can be used to give your remote workers access to corporate resources on the company network but can also give IT the ability to remotely access those systems for maintenance and to assist with system issues.
LogMeIn: What started as a simple method for remotely accessing a machine to assist with issues has turned into a suite of services. With LogMeIn, you now have options for remote management, system rescue and even a way to walk end users through resolving issues on their devices. They also have software that enables your users to access their files and applications on remote devices when they are away from their main desktop or device.
Chrome Remote Desktop
Chrome Remote Desktop: This service from Google is not so much a remote device management option but a tool for remotely accessing devices to provide assistance. There are options available to use these tools via the web or an app on iOS and Android. You must be using the latest version of the Chrome browser to use these services via the web. It can also be used to access Windows, macOS or Linux-based devices. Interestingly enough, there's no indication whether Chromebooks are supported with this service.
Zoho Assist: Another software for management of remote workers is Zoho Assist, which provides remote support options through web-based and as-needed remote support sessions. Remote access can be set up to allow unattended connections for managing various devices, including desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices and even servers. Zoho Assist also includes file transfer capabilities, remote reboot, voice chat, video chat and multiple monitor support.
