Tip of the week: Two things that make Windows 8 better immediately

First, learn at least one keyboard shortcut (WINKEY + C, for Charms) to get unstuck no matter where you are in the OS. Second, enable File History immediately. It's one of Windows 8's best features, but it's off by default.
