Microsoft Announces Project Lite, Cloud-based Productivity for Team Members

Taking advantage of the popularity and success of the Office 365 infrastructure, Microsoft today announced a new, lite version of Microsoft Project.

Project Online is a full-featured web-based project portfolio management solution, and is considered the replacement to the legacy Microsoft Project desktop application. The cost of the full Project Online with Project Pro for Office 365 is available for $58 per user, per month. That's a pretty steep price. However, Project Lite is being introduced to enable project team members to still participate, but in a limited, and more cost-effective way.

Project Lite will be formally introduced on May 1, 2014 and cost just $7 per user, per month. It is intended to be used in conjunction with a full Microsoft Project Online subscription. For example, a person in charge of managing a team would subscribe to the full version ($58 per month) and then team members who needed limited access would subscribe to the Lite version at $7 per month per team member.
